RIDICULOUS ROSE by Shel Silverstein

Paraphrase

Ridiculous Rose wasn’t able to do something one way, so she found another way. She ate with her toes instead of her fingers.

 Attitude

I feel like I shouldn’t give up if I can’t do something one way. I should use my creativity. The attitude of this poem is humor.

Shift 

I think the shift is when he says “So she ate with her toes,” because you think she is going to eat with a fork or spoon, but then it takes a turn and she eats with her toes.

Opinion

I love this poem because it’s really funny. It’s also meaningful at the same time. I think I learned from this poem and I hope other people did too.

Recommendation

I would definitely recommend this poem to my friends because it has humor and it’s meaningful.

  Paraphrase It doesn’t matter how I look. It matters how I am from the inside. The poem talks about how the colors of the body from the outside are different from the colors inside.  Attitude The attitude of this poem is not judging a book by its cover. Do not judge a person because of what they look like. When I read this poem I feel interested in the message. Shift  I think the shift is when he says “And all the colors I am inside, Have not been invented yet,” because it says that there is more to him on the inside than outside. Opinion  I love this poem too because it teaches people not to judge people because of what they look like. Instead judge by their actions. Just because you look beautiful on the outside doesn’t mean you’re beautiful on the inside.  Recommendation I also recommend this poem to my friends because it teaches to not judge a person by how he/she looks.

UNDERFACE by Shel Silverstein

Paraphrase   What people see is not like the inside me. The inside of me is a bit more depressing, but more like me. Attitude   I feel kind of sad because it shows that people are not talking about their feelings with other people but instead hide them. :( The attitude of this poem is sad and honest.  Shift I think the shift is when he says, “But a whole lot more like me,” because it’s telling that when he is pretending to smile in front of people it isn’t himself, but his sad feelings are more like him.  Opinion I think it is a really nice and relatable poem to a lot of people. A lot of teenagers feel depressed, but when they’re outside with friends they hide it. I think the poem gives awareness to people.  Recommendation Yes, I would recommend this poem to friends because it spreads awareness and it might relate to them because I don’t know how they feel.

HUG O’WAR Shel Silverstein

Paraphrase   I don’t want war to happen. I’d rather want peace and love in the world.  Attitude I feel mindful and caring because I also want peace and love in the world. The feeling of the poem is peace and care. Shift  I think the shift is when he says “And everyone wins,” because I think jealousy is a big part of war so I think it’s trying to say when there is peace, love, and happiness there is no jealousy because everyone wins. Opinion  I love this poem because I want peace and love on the earth. This poem reminds me of the quote: “Treat others how you want to be treated.” This poem means a lot to me, and might even be my favorite.  Recommendation Yes I would obviously recommend this to my friend! It is such a nice poem.
